Category-based selection allows IRCC to invite eligible Express Entry candidates using criteria for a particular round. The categories and detailed conditions can change. Read the official category-based selection page and the instructions for the round you are considering rather than relying on a fixed list in an older article.
Program eligibility still matters
A category-related qualification is not, by itself, an invitation or approval. Check the underlying Express Entry program requirements and the category conditions, and make sure the information in your profile is accurate. Do not assume that the name of an occupation alone establishes eligibility.
Organize evidence before making claims
- Employment records describing dates, duties and other requested work details.
- Language-test information applicable to your profile.
- Education and assessment documents requested by the program.
- Identity and civil-status records using consistent names and dates.
- A record of the official criteria you checked and any instruction received.
Use information supported by your records. If your circumstances change, review the appropriate update process rather than leaving inconsistent details in your profile and later application.
Know which documents require certification
Not every immigration document needs notarization. Follow the application checklist for translations, certified copies and statutory declarations. A notarized document cannot substitute for missing employment evidence or establish that an occupation meets the category definition.
