What Are the Requirements for an Applicant?

A Canadian passport application typically requires:

• A completed passport application form
• Required supporting documents and photos
• A guarantor who meets Passport Program criteria and has known you for at least two years (when applicable)

If you do not have an eligible guarantor, you may be able to complete an In Lieu of Guarantor form. This form is generally available through the passport office.
If a commissioning step is required, it must be completed in front of an authorized official such as a Notary Public or Commissioner of Oaths.

Is It Required to Sign in Front of a Notary?

Identification Requirements

Guarantor for Passport Application

A guarantor is a person who can confirm your identity and support the information in your passport application. The passport issuing authority sets the requirements for who can act as a guarantor.
